Roger Shattuck
Roger Whitney Shattuck (born August 20, 1923 in New York , † December 8, 2005 in Lincoln , Vermont ) was an American literary scholar .
Shattuck graduated from Yale University and Harvard University . He has taught at the University of Texas and the Universities of Virginia and Dakar , Senegal . He was a co-founder of the Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers . In 1990 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
One of his most important works is the cultural-historical research into the Belle Epoque ( The Banquet Years ). His cultural history of taboos received great attention in Germany .
