Roger de Oliveira Bernardo (born August 10, 1985 in Rio Claro ), short Roger , is a Brazilian soccer player who is under contract with Atlético Mineiro .
Career
In his childhood he played for the Brazilian second division club União São João EC , where he also made his first professional steps. At the age of 18 he moved from Brazil to Germany, to the then second division Arminia Bielefeld . But he could not prevail in the league and transferred back to União São João EC after half a year. Due to better performances than in Europe, he moved shortly after to the Brazilian first division club Palmeiras São Paulo .
After two years with Palmeiras, he was engaged by AA Ponte Preta , where he only stayed a month. He moved to EC Juventude until the end of the season . The next season he played for Figueirense FC . In the summer of 2009 he dared to move to Europe again and switched to the German second division Energie Cottbus , where he signed a four-year contract. There he was denied a breakthrough due to two long injuries. With the start of the new second division season, Roger was finally able to leave his injury problems behind and became a regular player under Claus-Dieter Wollitz . Roger scored his first goal in German professional football on February 4, 2011 in a 3: 3 against Alemannia Aachen , which meant the 2: 2 equalization. Under Wollitz's successor Rudi Bommer , Roger lost his regular place and was only substituted for four minutes at the beginning of the 2012/13 season. After the third match day, Roger moved to FC Ingolstadt 04 within the league . There he received a contract until 2015. After he was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time with the team , he made his debut on August 15, 2015 (1st matchday) in a 1-0 win in the away game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in this division from beginning to. In the 1-1 draw against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on matchday 15 this season, Roger scored his first Bundesliga goal with a direct free kick.
Roger announced that he would like to return to his native Brazil after the 2016-17 season. He switched to the Atlético Mineiro club from Belo Horizonte.
