Origin and meaning
The name was especially in England of the Middle Ages used and is a Norman French form of Hrodohaidis . This is derived from the Germanic elements hrod (fame) and heid (kind, sort, type). The Normans introduced it to England in the Roese and Rohese forms . Early on it was associated with the word for the fragrant flower rose . When the name was revived in the 19th century, it was likely intended for the flower.
One variant is Rohesia, Royse and Rothaid, Rosa, Rose, Rosabel, Rosabella, Rosie and Rosy.
