life and career

Conaty's parents were from Ireland and met in London. Roisin Conaty was born in Camden , London (England) in 1979 . She grew up there with her parents and a younger sister. As a child, Conaty often spent her holidays in Ireland, which made her feel strongly connected to her parents' homeland. Conaty was already interested in acting at school. Theater studies was one of her A-level subjects. However, at that time she did not yet believe in being able to be successful as an actress. She later went to Middlesex University to study film. When her father died unexpectedly at the age of 52, Conaty dropped out of college. At the age of 24 Conaty had her first appearances as a comedian. She had been writing her own lyrics long ago when a friend talked her into doing a stand-up comedy show at The King's Head pub in London . Conaty enjoyed this performance so much that she decided to pursue a career as a comedian. However, she could not book any major successes at first. Right after returning from her Las Vegas vacation for her 30th birthday, she wrote her show Hero, Warrior, Fireman, Liar . For this she received the Best Newcomer Award of the Edinburgh Festival in 2010 . Several appearances as a comedian on various television shows followed. In 2013, she received her first leading role as an actress in the sitcom Man Down . A little later, Conaty wrote and produced the British comedy television series GameFace , in which she played the lead role of Marcella. The name Marcella is based on Conaty's middle name. Conaty stated that this would show that while the series was somehow related to her, it was not entirely about her. (Quote: It gives enough separation to make the show kind of about me but not me in full. )
