This was filmed from February 2017 and broadcast on E4 in October 2017. In addition to Roisin Conaty , Caroline Ginty was the only actress from the pilot who also appeared in the series. Roisin Conaty wrote the script and played Marcella. The name Marcella is also Roisin Conaty middle name. The series is a little, but not completely, based on her own life.

Reviews
The reviews of the series were mostly positive.
The National's Julie McDowall says the series is funny. She says that most sitcoms about restless, childless, drunk women would portray women helplessly and nicely. The woman would settle down and start having children if only she could find the right man. GameFace , however, is different. Marcella is portrayed as rude, cheeky and selfish. When her colleagues believed that Marcella was at risk of suicide and would therefore pay more attention to her and give her gifts, Marcella would uphold that belief. Marcella is the glorious opposite of silly, unhappy TV women, like the boring Miranda in the TV series of the same name .
Michael Hogan of the Daily Telegraph thinks the comedy series is rude, raw, and cunningly romantic. It was the funniest sitcom of the year.
The Times’s Carol Midgley praises Roisin Conaty (Marcella) for having the talent to move from exhilaration to heartbreak in an instant, and at every extreme equally convincingly. Stephen Armstrong believes Roisin Conaty is shamelessly funny on GameFace.
Fiona Sturges from The Guardian adds that GameFace is a generous comedy that somehow manages to portray depression and loneliness in a funny way. Julia Raeside describes Marcella as a heroine in her thirties who is aimless, enthusiastic, but above all funny.
Kerry Potter of the Daily Mail says GameFace is a Bridget Jones style comedy for a new generation.
