Rokjá Pomtilá is a village on the Ik'bolay River in Guatemala . The climate in Rokjá Pomtilá is tropical . The community itself is deep in the rain forest in the Department of Alta Verapaz . The village is located in a buffer zone of the Laguna Lachuá National Park and is about 200 meters above sea level.

The residents of Rokjá Pomitilá belong to the Q'eqchi community . The group is also one of the indigenous people . Accordingly, the language spoken there is also called Q'eqchi ( often also written Kekchí ). The Q'eqchi culture goes back to the tradition of the Mayans back.

The residents grow corn and cardamom under the forest canopy .

If you want to visit Rokjá Pomtilá, you should contact BIDAS ( Asociación Biósfera y Desarrollo Agrícola Sostenible ) in Cobán . There is an office of the Projecto Ecológico Quetzal . BIDAS is a private, not-for-profit organization that cares for the sustainable development and preservation of the environment, social, cultural and education. The Projecto Ecológico Quetzal was set up by German students and is under the patronage of BIDAS.

Rokjá Pomtilá is especially a popular destination for holidaymakers who want to get to know life outside the mainstream and the life of the Q'eqchi culture.

In addition to the village life, there is the possibility of hiking in the rainforest. The flora and fauna are unique. With a little luck you can see the jaguar , toucan , howler monkey and many other animal species. The place is known for its diverse avifauna . Of ornithologists here at least 323 different bird species have been spotted.

Boat tours go to caves that are said to be the place where the Ik'bolay River is said to be reborn. There you will also find fountains and waterfalls that emerge from the numerous limestone crevices. Another cave served the Mayans as a burial room.
