Roland Baumhauer

Roland Baumhauer (born January 11, 1956 in Ulm ) is a German geographer and dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Life

From 1974 to 1980 Baumhauer studied geography, geology and mineralogy at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . He then began field work on his dissertation "On the young Quaternary lake development in the area of ​​the Bilma (NE-Niger) zone", with which he received his doctorate in 1985.

From 1980 to 1992 he worked at the University of Würzburg, initially as a research assistant at the Geographical Institute, later as an academic adviser . He completed his habilitation in 1991 on "Paleo lakes in the southern central Sahara - Possibilities and problems of their paleoclimatic interpretation".

From 1991 to 2002 Roland Baumhauer held a professorship for applied physical geography at the University of Trier . There he was vice president and interim president for a few months in 1999/2000.

Baumhauer has held the chair for physical geography at the University of Würzburg since 2002. In 2011 he was elected Dean of the Philosophical Faculty. In his work, he examines the changes in terrestrial ecosystems and the sediments of lakes in northern Africa, the Middle East and on the Iberian Peninsula. He also deals with the problem of environmental management . This includes the analysis and assessment of environmental risks, the conception and installation of environmental information systems as well as the development of integrated environmental management systems with special consideration of scientific aspects in agriculture , especially in viticulture .

Baumhauer is the author of numerous publications and several monographs on physical geography and its sub-areas. Since 1998 he has been a member of the Commission for Geomorphology of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
