Roland Cardon

Roland Cardon (born April 15, 1929 in Ronse , † August 18, 2001 ) was a Belgian musician , composer , music teacher and conductor . He also used the pen name Guy Rodenhof .

His brother Denis taught him the first exercises on the clarinet and made him familiar with the noting system. He joined the Royal Harmony of Sint-Cecilia , Ronse and its conductor Maurice Flamant advised him to go to the Music Academy in Ronse. There he was taught music theory , flute , violoncello and saxophone . After the Second World War he began studying music at the Ghent Conservatory . There he graduated in flute and chamber music . He continued his studies in Liège at the Conservatory with Sylvain Dupuis harmony , counterpoint and fugue .

Live and act

In 1954 he joined the music corps of the 12th Brigade in Aarlen as a solo flutist. In 1957 he became conductor of the music corps of the 4th Brigade in Liège . The music corps of the domestic armed forces in Aarlen made him its conductor in 1963, before he succeeded Charles Frison as conductor of the van de Rijkswacht band in Brussels . He held this position until his retirement on December 31, 1981.

In addition to his work as a conductor of the military orchestra, he was a sought-after teacher and lecturer at music academies and conservatories. From 1963 to 1972 he was responsible lecturer for woodwinds and orchestral music at the music school in Aarlen . From 1973 to 1982 he taught the flute at the Music Academy in Vilvoorde . In addition, he taught at the Rijksmuziekacademie in Etterbeek also flute from 1973 to 1977. From 1974 to 1977 he was a lecturer for directing blown or fanfare orchestras at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels . From January 1, 1982 to July 1, 1994 he was director of the City Conservatory in Ostend .

Roland Cardon was a versatile composer.
