His parents were divorced in 1929 and, according to the divorce decree, after the death of his father in 1934, the shares in the company passed to his mother, who was married to the editor of Le Figaro , Leon Cotnareanu , in a second marriage . Cotnareanu was for many years chairman of Coty.

Roland Coty was the company's managing director for a long time. In 1963, the year of his death, the company was sold to the pharmaceutical company Pfizer .
