Marcel Mongin
Marcel Edouard Mongin (born November 6, 1897 , † May 12, 1972 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French racing driver .
Career
Marcel Mongin competed in sports car races in the 1920s and 1930s and achieved his greatest successes in endurance races . In 1924 he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Together with his compatriot Roland Coty , he drove an Oméga Six . The light and manoeuvrable 2-liter car broke down after just eleven laps due to a technical defect. More 24-hour races followed, both at Le Mans and at Spa . Although he was never able to win either of the two races, with four second places he is one of the most successful starters in these races before the Second World War .
In Le Mans he achieved first, second place in 1926 . At the finish he and Gérard de Courcelles were one lap short of the winners Robert Bloch and André Rossignol . Nine years later, in 1937 , he finished second again. This time together with Joseph Paul on a Delahaye 135CS . An overall victory was also denied in Spa. In 1928 and 1936 he had to be content with second place overall.
