The Roland JV-1010 is a sample- based synthesizer from 1999. It is a lower-cost version of the Roland JV-1080 sound module from 1994.

Sound generation

Like the JV-1080, the JV-1010 has 64-fold polyphony and can reproduce 16 different sounds at the same time ( multi-timbrality ). The sound is also generated using the linear arithmetic synthesis that was typical for Roland at the time .

However, thanks to advances in miniaturization, the coveted “Session” expansion module (SR-JV80-09) with its high-quality sounds has been firmly integrated and the internal structure has been simplified, while the housing had to be half as high and half as wide. The more modern digital-to-analog converter now also has 24-bit resolution.

handling

Compared to the larger devices, the control section only consists of a three-digit numeric display and four rotary switches, so that it is not possible to program new sounds directly on the device. To compensate Roland put a customized version of the editor program SoundDiver from Emagic in on CD-ROM. The JV-1010 can be operated via MIDI to the same extent as its bigger brothers.
