Roland Kern (born November 3, 1947 in Urberach ) is a Hessian politician ( Die Grünen ) and former Vice President of the Hessian State Parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Roland Kern did military service from 1967 to 1968 and was recognized as a conscientious objector in 1969 . He then completed his law studies in 1974 with the first state examination and in 1976 with the second state examination and later worked as a lawyer.

politics

In 1981, Roland Kern was the founder of the Andere Liste Rödermark, for which he was community representative in Rödermark in 1981 and 1982 . In the state elections in Hesse in 1982 , representatives of the Greens, including Roland Kern, were elected to the state parliament for the first time. Roland Kern became Vice President of the State Parliament. Holger Börner's attempt to govern by means of a minority government ("Hessian conditions") failed after a few months. In the early state elections in Hesse in 1983 , Kern was re-elected and confirmed as vice-president of the state parliament. Kern had stood as a candidate in the Offenbach Land III constituency , but was elected via the state list of the Greens. Due to the rotation principle practiced at the time by the Greens , he had to give up his mandate on April 19, 1985.

After leaving the state parliament, Kern continued to be active in local politics. In 2005 he was elected mayor of Rödermark in the runoff election and was confirmed in office in 2011 with 59.1%. In 2017, he received 51.3% of the votes in the runoff election, entering his third term, which was shortened to 25 months and ended on June 30, 2019.
