Roland Suessmann

Roland Süßmann is a German table tennis player . He is European youth champion and took part in the 1959 World Cup.

Career

Sussmann began playing table tennis at the TTC Wehrstedt club . Here he recorded several successes in the youth field. In 1953 he was appointed to the German youth team. In mixed with Oda Mielenhausen he was German junior runner-up in 1954 and German junior champion in 1955, for which the Lower Saxony table tennis association awarded him the silver badge of honor. In the same year he won the European youth championship in Stuttgart with the team and in doubles with Franz-Joseph Wedig.

In 1956, Süßmann moved to VfL Bochum , which he left a few months later for TV Jahn Nuremberg. With Nuremberg he reached the finals of the German team championship in 1958. From 1960 to 1962 he played for ETuS Wanne-Eickel, after which he joined the league club ETSV Witten.

In 1956 he reached the final at the state championships of Lower Saxony in doubles with Franz-Joseph Wedig. In 1959 he was nominated for the individual competitions of the world championship in Dortmund. He won the singles against the Swede Hans Bolin and then lost to later vice world champion Ferenc Sidó (Hungary). In doubles with Kurt Roesmer , he failed in the first round to Nils Erik Svensson / Sven Erik Backlin (Sweden). The mixed with Hertha Maier was also eliminated immediately against Ian Harrison / Lynn Withams.

Private

Roland's sister Inge also belonged to the top of Lower Saxony in the 1950s. With her he reached the round of 16 at the German Mixed Championships in 1956 .
