Rolf-Dieter Backhauß

Rolf-Dieter Backhauß (born July 13, 1941 in Schöningen ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

The trained coppersmith Backhauß first attended elementary school and then attended the advanced vocational school (in the form of an evening school).

In 1956 he joined IG Metall as a member and worked for eight years in union youth work.

Backhauß joined the SPD in 1962 and initially worked as its full-time managing director in the Helmstedt subdistrict , of which he was later elected honorary chairman. After his tenure as an elected member of the district executive committee of the SPD district of Braunschweig, he also worked for a time as its managing director. For a long time he has been chairman of the SPD local association in Schöningen.

Backhauß began his local political career in 1968 as a member of the Helmstedt district assembly , where he took over the post of deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1972 to 1974 he was the deputy district administrator of the Helmstedt district and was a member of its district committee . From November 8, 1996 to July 31, 2003 he was Helmstedt District Administrator , and since then he has been 1st Deputy District Administrator and 1st Deputy District Council Chairman.

Backhauß was elected councilor in his hometown in 1980 , was second deputy mayor from 1982 to 1986 and has been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the city council since 1986 .

In the 10th to 12th electoral period from June 21, 1982 to June 20, 1994, Rolf-Dieter Backhauß was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

As a representative of the district of Helmstedt, Backhauß is a member of the association assembly of the special purpose association Greater Braunschweig and is there deputy parliamentary group chairman and parliamentary group manager of the SPD.

Backhauß worked as an honorary administrative judge. In addition, he is President of the German-Tunisian Society and Deputy Chairman of the Friends of Schöninger Speere - Heritage of Humanity .
