Rolf Breuer

Rolf Breuer (born October 13, 1940 in Vienna ) is a German English scholar and literary theorist .

Career

Breuer passed his Abitur in 1961 at the Comenius-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf, studied English, Romance languages ​​and philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Göttingen, and received his doctorate in 1967 with the dissertation The Function of Descriptions of Nature in the Middle English Versromances at the University of Göttingen . Subsequently, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Regensburg , where he joined in 1975 with a record of Samuel Beckett habilitated . From 1976 and 1977 he was visiting professor at the University of Massachusetts , Amherst . He then represented the English language professor at the University of Bamberg until 1978 , and that at the University of Marburg the following year . Since 1979 he has been a professor at the University of Paderborn . In 2009 he retired. His work focuses on literary theory, the literature of romanticism in England , the literature and regional studies of Ireland , on Samuel Beckett, contemporary metafiction , follow-up novels and re-writes . For many years he has also published fiction texts. He is married to Cordula Breuer and has four children. The literary scholar Horst Breuer is his brother.
