Rolf Garske

Rolf Garske (* July 21, 1952 in Lehrte ; † March 11, 1996 in Münster ) was a German publisher and organizer in the field of artistic dance .

Life

In 1976 Garske in Cologne (with Hedwig Müller, Birgit Kirchner, Norbert Servos and others) initially launched a funding initiative for the Cologne Dance Forum . In this way he helped "the first municipal theater company at the time that had introduced modern dance training and built up an exclusively modern repertoire to secure a permanent audience" (H. Müller). Soon he founded the Deutsche Ballett-Bühne eV as a supraregional funding organization and the Ballett-Bühnen-Verlag . He organized evenings for young choreographers in several cities . a. Susanne Linke , Reinhild Hoffmann , James Saunders, Carlos Orta , Vivienne Newport , Hans Pop and Krisztina Horvath , but also representatives of classical ballet, were able to present their work. Garske organized a. a. also bus trips for dance fans, for example to the then still sparsely attended performances of Pina Bausch and her Wuppertal dance theater , but also to John Neumeier and the Hamburg Ballet , to Brussels to Maurice Béjart and his company or on the plane to New York. In 1979, his publishing house produced the first book about Pina Bausch and the Wuppertal dance theater, but also about Kurt Jooss and Hans van Manen . Rolf Garske was always concerned with the promotion of artistic dance, which occasionally - for example in 1986 when trying to found an umbrella organization - led to fierce quarrels among experts about Garske's associated prominence.

In February 1977 the first hectographed information sheets appeared, which soon developed into a small magazine, Ballett-Info , and from January 1982 were continued in two languages ​​as Ballett International (later supplemented by tanz international ). His magazine soon shaped a whole generation of dance enthusiasts. In 1993 Garske had to sell his magazine for economic and health reasons (today: tanz ).

On March 11, 1996, Rolf Garske died of complications from a serious illness at the age of 43.
