Rolf Holger Lassgård (born March 29, 1955 in Östersund ) is a Swedish actor . He plays roles in both theater and film and is one of the most famous actors in Scandinavia.

life and work

After attending drama school in Malmö , he switched to Skånska Teatern in Landskrona, where he played in plays by William Shakespeare and Bertolt Brecht . His breakthrough came in the role of Puck in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream . It was at this theater that he met his future wife Birgitta, whom he married in 1982.

In the 1990s, he mainly concentrated on working in front of the camera. He has appeared in numerous international cinema and television films and has received many awards. He achieved his greatest fame in German-speaking countries through the impersonation of Commissioner Kurt Wallander , whom he played from 1994 to 2007 in the film adaptations of Henning Mankell's novels . In 2008 he shot the film Sturm under the direction of German director Hans-Christian Schmid , which took part in the 2009 Berlinale competition. In German-speaking he was most recently in 2010 in the presentation of murder suspect agents and architects Gunnar Andersson in the Bella Block - episode The black room to see. In 2015 he played the title character in A Man Called Ove , which was nominated for an Oscar in 2017 .

In the films The Trail of the Hunters and The Night of the Hunters from 1996 and 2011, respectively, Lassgård played the investigator Erik Bäckström. He played the same character from 2018 in the TV series Jäger - Tödliche Greed .

Lassgård lives in Gävle with his wife Birgitta and their three children Ida, Hanne and Anton .

Awards and honors

In 2017 Lassgård was honored with the Swedish royal medal Litteris et Artibus .
