action

The profiler and forensic psychologist Sebastian Bergman previously held this position with the Swedish police, where he was considered one of the most sought-after and feared investigators in the police force. As a gruff profiler, he wasn't always popular and, as a so-called womanizer, he had several extramarital relationships. During a family vacation in Thailand in 2004 , he lost his wife and four-year-old daughter in the tsunami and earthquake in the Indian Ocean . Bergman then fell into severe depression and resigned from the police force. He has also had severe nightmares ever since. For years he blamed himself for the death of his little daughter in Thailand because he could not hold her during the tsunami.

Sebastian Bergman returned to his hometown after the sudden death of his mother. Through a chance encounter with his former colleague Torkel Höglund and the current head of the "Rikskrim" police unit, he learns of a brutal murder of a schoolboy. After repeated emphatic requests and persuasion, he is allowed to help solve the crime as a consultant. Bergman has to work with the young police investigator Vanja, with whom the cooperation initially proves to be extremely difficult as he is not fully accepted by her and the other employees. While studying the case, he discovers an old letter from his former lover in his late mother's apartment. This tells Bergman that he has a second daughter from an almost forgotten relationship. After solving the first case, he also finds out the address of his former lover, Karin Andersson, who, however, refuses any clarification or contact with his child. Since his young colleague Vanja also visits this apartment afterwards, he is shocked to discover that she is his illegitimate daughter. Bergman keeps this to himself for the time being and sees a purpose in his life again. He is slowly beginning to rebuild his professional career.

Shortly afterwards, more murders occur and the police are once again groping in the dark. Bergman can again persuade the chief of the special unit to cooperate with him and is thus back in the investigation. Due to the similarly executed crimes, everything indicates that this is a serial offender. After a few setbacks and obstacles, this can be set, whereby he saves his daughter's life, because the perpetrator also targeted his personal environment.

Reviews

“You will certainly never be able to implement this book model so precisely. And yet it is fun to discover both worlds every now and then. All in all, there is a good crime thriller here that focuses on a character who is played very well by Rolf Lassgard. "

“... All the supporting actors work solidly, just like the catchy background [sic!], Despite the occasional over-presence in the middle part of the crime thriller, makes a good impression thanks to the concise background music for essential scenes. The script, on the other hand, is rich in coherent, yet difficult to predict twists and turns the individual threads of the plot with a sure hand. ... "
