Rolf Jonas Lidberg (born May 26, 1930 in Liden , a village in today's Sundsvall municipality in Medelpad am Indalsälven , Sweden ; † February 15, 2005 in Sweden) was a Swedish artist and botanist . He was best known for his paintings and books with pictures of trolls depicting the old life on the Indalsälven before the river was expanded. His trolls were very human, and usually depicted doing nature activities like mushroom picking or fishing, or just lying in the woods and looking at the sky.

Lidberg's main interest was botany, especially orchids and mushrooms. He was a founding member of the 1970 Sundsvall Mycological Society . Lidberg traveled all over Europe to paint and draw a wide variety of plants. He spent a long time in Sicily , where he was given honorary citizenship of the city of Geraci Siculo .

Lidberg himself was slightly hunchbacked, had a big beard and loved to run around and whistle. He often looked almost like one of his trolls. He also referred to one of his troll paintings as a self-portrait. In the early 1980s, a series of three programs about Rolf Lidberg entitled "A man and his flowers" was broadcast on Swedish television. He also made some programs under the title "Foray on Tenerife". He had visited Tenerife several times.
