Rolf Meyer (soccer player)

Rolf "Rolli" Meyer (born October 3, 1955 in Bremen ) is a German former soccer goalkeeper and today's coach .

Career

Meyer began his career in the youth of TSV Melchiorshausen . His talent was discovered early on, so that he made it into the Bremen state selection and DFB student team. He later moved to SV Werder Bremen . After he was only the second goalkeeper there behind Dieter Burdenski and did not appear in the Bundesliga , he moved to VfL Osnabrück in 1978 in the 2nd Bundesliga , where he stayed until 1983. There he became a regular goalkeeper and crowd favorite and in five years at VfL in 184 second division games. After he could not agree on a contract extension with VfL, he moved to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, where he was substitute goalkeeper behind Eike Immel . After Immels moved to Stuttgart, he was scheduled to be the first goalkeeper for the 1986/87 season, but an injury before the start of the season let Wolfgang de Beer move into goal. Meyer remained in the role of substitute goalkeeper after his recovery. With Dortmund he won the DFB Cup in 1989 . By the end of his career in 1991, he had played five Bundesliga games for BVB.

He currently lives in Hollage / Brockhausen, a part of the municipality of Wallenhorst (near Osnabrück). Meyer has been part of the coaching staff at VfL Osnabrück since 2003.

Rolf Meyer became battalion master in 1977 in the fistball tournament of the Bundeswehr in Munsterlager.
