Rolf Schumacher (diplomat)

Rolf Schumacher (born October 21, 1943 in Duisburg ) is a German diplomat . From 2003 to 2008 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Argentina .

Life

After studying Indology, Romance Studies and Islamic Philology, which he obtained in 1975 with a doctorate as Dr. phil. graduated, he was a research assistant at the University of Kiel until 1976 . After joining the Foreign Service in 1976, he worked abroad at the embassies in Iran and Thailand and at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to NATO in Brussels . In between, Dr. Schumacher as a consultant in the Political Department of the Foreign Office .

From 1990 to 1993 he was deputy head of the NATO department in the political department of the Federal Foreign Office. Between 1993 and 1994 he was permanent representative of the ambassador to Algeria , and then until 1997 permanent representative of the ambassador to Morocco . After a brief assignment as Head of Division in the Office of the Federal President , he was Head of the NATO Division in the Political Department from 1997 to 1999, then Head of the North America and International Security Policy Division and, most recently, Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Foreign Office from 2001 to 2003, before moving to Buenos Aires Aires switched.
