The Roller GmbH & Co. KG (proper spelling: ROLLER ) is a German furniture discounter , based in Gelsenkirchen .

history

The company was founded in 1969 by the trained retail salesman Hans-Joachim Tessner from Goslar . This rose through his work and investments in the furniture dealer Möbel Unger ; this company went out in 1999.

Initially, the goods were sold in a warehouse. The first test markets finally followed in 1986 and 1987. The first scooter market was in Georgsmarienhütte . In 1996 the 50th branch was opened.

Roller has had an online shop since 2004. In 2007 the company appeared for the first time with Germany-wide TV advertising. In addition, Roller is a gang sponsor of FC Schalke 04 . As an exclusive advertising partner in the furniture and furnishings trade, the service package for scooters includes, among other things, presence on the LED band, advertisements and spots, online advertising and the organization of their own soccer tournament. Dieter Bohlen has been the new advertising face of the furniture store since September 2018 .

The furniture discounter now operates almost 150 furniture stores (as of May 30, 2018) with around 6,000 employees (as of September 2014). The range includes furniture and related specialist ranges such as curtains, carpets, floor coverings, paints and wallpapers . Subsidiaries are Roller Luxemburg SA, Strassen (99.99%), Roller Verwaltungs GmbH, Gelsenkirchen (100%) and FSM-Importgesellschaft mbH, Gelsenkirchen (50%).

According to the industry magazine Möbelkultur (edition 7/2011), the turnover of the company Roller increased from 760 million euros in the 2006/2007 financial year to 950 million in the 2009/2010 financial year.

Hans-Joachim Tessner is 100% owner of Roller. Up to July 2007, the carpet domain Harste held a 25.1% share. The turnover of the Tessner Group in 2011 was 1.2 billion euros.
