"Rolling Horse" sculpture

The Rolling Horse is a sculpture designed by Jürgen Goertz on the northern terrace of Berlin Central Station on Europaplatz . The sculpture is made of stainless steel , aluminum , plastic, glass and stone. It is 9.70 meters high, 8.70 meters wide and weighs 35 tons.

What is shown is "a figure modeled on the horse, which, curved in a circle, is assigned to a wheel segment". Architectural set pieces from the old Lehrter train station are integrated in the base and can be viewed through four portholes.

criticism

The professional association of visual artists Berlin publicly criticized the work of art after it was erected in May 2007. It is provincial and resembles too much the sculpture S-Printing Horse by the same artist, which stands in Heidelberg between a building belonging to Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and the main train station there.

Both sculptures were commissioned by companies whose CEO at the time the order was placed was Hartmut Mehdorn (Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG or Deutsche Bahn ).
