Roman Bannwart

Roman Bannwart (born November 2, 1919 in Gossau as Wilhelm Bannwart ; † April 2, 2010 in Einsiedeln ) was a Swiss theologian , priest , and musician .

Life

Roman Bannwart attended the collegiate school in Einsiedeln and became a novice at the monastery in 1940 . In 1944 he made his profession . He studied theology . At the same time he began a musical education. In 1945 he was ordained a priest . In 1947 he became choral magister, in 1954 he took over the management of the student music of the collegiate school. After handing over the reins to his successor, he played with them until 2006. He was also a lecturer in Gregorian chant in Lucerne, Zurich and Bern. In 1988 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Freiburg for his musical work. He was a member of the Swiss Student Association .
