Lee Bowman

Lee Bowman (born December 28, 1914 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † December 25, 1979 in Brentwood , Los Angeles ) was an American film actor.

Life

Bowman was born in Cincinnati in 1914 to Luther Lee Bowman and Elizabeth Pringle Fauntleroy . He graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1936 . At first he tried his hand at being a stage actor and singer on the radio. From 1937 he played minor supporting roles in a number of films for Paramount Pictures . Because of his elegant appearance, including a mustache, as also worn by Clark Gable , he was mostly cast as a playboy . In the course of his career he has appeared in various film genres, such as in the comedy Next Time I Marry (1938) alongside Lucille Ball , in the melodrama Restless Love (1939) with Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer , in the war film Bataan (1943 ) with Robert Taylor , in the two film musicals Es tanzt die Göttin (1944) and Tonight and Every Night (1945) alongside Rita Hayworth or in Fritz Lang's film noir Das Todeshaus am Fluß (1950).

During the 1950s, Bowman was mostly seen on television. In the short-lived series The Adventures of Ellery Queen (1950-1951) he played the title role. In 1954 and 1958 he also appeared on Broadway in New York . He was later in 38 episodes of the series Miami Undercover (1961) and in an episode of On the Run (1964) to see. In 1968 he ended his acting career and instead worked as an adviser to the Republican Party in Washington, DC , where he trained politicians and business people to speak on camera. Bowman, who was married to Helene Rosson (1994-1993), died of a heart attack in 1979 three days before his 65th birthday in Los Angeles .
