Roman Hellmann

Roman Hellmann (born January 3, 1921 in Schwarzach im Pongau ; † May 12, 2012 in Vienna ) was an Austrian designer . He is known for the designs of banknotes .

Live and act

Roman Hellmann studied from 1938 to 1948, with a war-related interruption, at the Vienna Art Academy and from 1948 worked as a freelance graphic artist and designer. In 1950 he successfully took part in design competitions. In 1952 he became the in-house designer of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB).

All earlier Austrian schilling banknotes between 1956 and 1972 were based on his designs. Hellmann retired in 1978, having previously appointed Robert Kalina as his successor at the OeNB.
