Roman Hinterhöller

Roman Hinterhöller OSB (baptized name: Georg Hinterhöller ; * December 1, 1912 in Salzburg- Maxglan ; † August 23, 1989 in St. Georgen near Salzburg ) was a Benedictine monk and 54th abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Michaelbeuern .

Life

He was born as the seventh child of a tailor's family in Salzburg-Maxglan and attended Borromäum, a high school in Salzburg run by the Catholic Church , where he graduated in 1933. Soon after graduating from high school , he became a novice in the Benedictine monastery Michaelbeuern. In 1939 he finished his theology studies and was ordained a priest . During the Second World War he was called up as a medic and was seriously injured. As a pastor he worked in various parishes that were looked after from Michaelbeuern.

On April 24, 1969, he was elected to succeed Maurus Riha as the 54th Abbot of Michaelbeuern. On 27 May 1969 he received by Andreas Rohracher the benediction . During his tenure, various construction works were undertaken in the monastery. In 1982 he resigned from office. He died while working as a temporary worker in St. Georgen near Salzburg. He is buried in the Michaelbeuern cemetery.
