Ronald Percy "Ron" Ainge (born August 5, 1920 in Pontardawe , † March 2008 in Newport ) was a Welsh football player .

Career

Ainge played for AFC Llanelly before signing a professional contract with AFC Newport County , which played in the Football League Second Division , in October 1946 . The team had suffered significant defeats in the previous weeks, including a 13-0 defeat at Newcastle United . Ainge was one of four new players to play a week after the Newcastle game against Swansea Town (final score 2-4). By early November, Ainge came as a left winger to a total of five league appearances, in which only a 1-0 win against FC Bury managed to win a point. In December 1946 he returned to Llanelly, initially on loan and later permanently. Meanwhile, Newport rose at the end of the season as bottom of the table in the Third Division South , during the season coach Tom Bromilow had used a total of 41 different players in 42 games.

Ainge was active in the following years either as a center forward or right winger for Llanelly, who played in the Southern League and the Welsh League . In 1949 he was with the club in the final of the Welsh League Cup , in the FA Cup 1950/51 he failed with the team in the first main round only in the second replay after extra time at the Bristol Rovers . Three years later he was also in the 3-0 defeat in the first round match of the FA Cup in 1953/54 at Northampton Town on the field. By May 1952, Ainge Llanelly had been a professional for eight years and had been the club's top scorer for the previous five seasons when he was put on the transfer list. He subsequently stayed with Llanelly and was also Llanelly's best scorer in the 1953/54 season, in May 1954 he received a benefit game with Eddie Davies for his long membership in the club. The game against an All Star XI around Ivor Allchurch and Trevor Ford was attended by 12,000 spectators and Ainge scored both of his team's goals in the 2: 7 defeat. Ainge was active for Llanelly until 1955, albeit more sporadically in his final season.
