Ron Akana

Ron Akana (* 1928 in Honolulu ) is a former American flight attendant who worked in this role for United Airlines for 63 years and covered an estimated 200 million airline miles in the course of his professional life. This makes him the longest-serving flight attendant in the world and has been included in the Guinness Book of Records for this .

Life

Akana applied to United Airlines in 1949 based on an advertisement in the local newspaper. His motive for applying as a flight steward was "[...] to come to the mainland, which was a big deal these days." At the time, Akana was still a student at the University of Hawaii . After being hired, he began flying a Boeing Stratocruiser between Hawaii and the American mainland.
