Ron Raikes

Ron Raikes (born March 11, 1948 in Lincoln , Nebraska , † September 5, 2009 in Ashland , Nebraska) was an American politician , farmer and Senator from Lincoln, Nebraska, in the Nebraska Legislature .

Raikes attended Ashland High School and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agriculture . At the University of California-Davis he received a Masters in agriculture business management and a Ph.D. in agriculture economics . He has served on the Nebraska Economic Forecasting Advisory Board, the Nebraska Farm Business Association, the Nebraska Agriculture Relations Council, the Nebraska Land Improvement Contractors Association, and the Agriculture Builders of Nebraska.

Raikes succeeded the late Jerome Warner in the State Legislature on May 15, 1997 . He was then elected in 1998 to represent the 25th Nebraska legislative district and was re-elected in 2000 and 2004. He chaired the Education committee , served on the Revenue committee , the Education Commission of the States, and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact. He was succeeded by Kathy Campbell .

Raikes was found under an agricultural implement. The local authorities have classified his death as an accident and ordered an autopsy .
