Ronald Jones (politician)

Ronald Dacosta Jones JP (* 23. November 1957 in Wilcox, Christ Church Parish ) is a politician from Barbados from the Democratic Labor Party (DLP), the 2008-2018 member of the House of Assembly , and, since 2013 Minister of Education, Science Technology and innovation was in the cabinet of Prime Minister of Barbados friend Stuart Stuart .

Life

Studies, teachers and social engagement

After primary education at St. Bartholomew Boys' School , secondary education at Washington High School and Community College, Jones began studying history and sociology at the University of the West Indies , Cave Hill Campus, of which he received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. A post-graduate studies in Educational Management and Administration at the University of London , he finished with a Master of Arts (MA). He also earned a teacher training certificate from Erdiston Teachers' Training College in Barbados.

In addition to his studies, he was active in the 1970s and early 1980s as chairman of the national youth council BYT (Barbados Youth Council) and chairman of the Commonwealth of Caribbean Youth Workers Association of Barbados .

Afterwards, Jones worked as a teacher and, through his role as a board member and president of the Barbados Teachers' Cooperative Credit Union Limited, studied topics such as education, sports, union work and community development. In addition, he became president of the national football association BFA (Barbados Football Association) in 1998 and was also a founding member of the Congress of Trade Unions and Employees' Associations of Barbados and president of the BUT (Barbados Union of Teachers) .

He was also involved in the committee for the national summer camps, in the St. Bartholomew's Boys' Old Scholars Association and Youth Group and in the cultural group Thirty Three as One . In 1991 he was also a Justice of the Peace (Justice of the Peace) .

MP and Minister

As a candidate for the Democratic Labor Party (DLP), he was elected member of the House of Assembly for the first time in the January 15, 2008 elections and has since represented the constituency of Christ Church East Central . Shortly after the elections, he became Prime Minister David Thompson as Minister for human resources training and development (Minister of Education and Human Resource Development) and has held this ministerial post in the cabinet of Freudel Stuart, the prime minister after the death of Thompson's on 23rd October 2010.

After the DLP's renewed victory in the elections on February 21, 2013, Prime Minister Stuart appointed him Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation on February 28, 2013 , whereas the Responsibility for Human Resource Development has been assumed by Minister for Labor, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Esther Byer-Suckoo . He remained a minister until the government was replaced in May 2018.
