painting

After the honey pot ant mural was created in Papunya in 1971, which was a style- defining modern art for the Aborigines , he too began to paint. In 1972 he was one of the founding members of the economic enterprise Papunya Tula Artists Pty Ltd , in which only painting are Aboriginal members.

From the 1990s he designed his work in the style of the Aborigines of the Pintupi . In his work he connects individual surfaces with lines. The lines make the connections between people, the land and the dreamtime . His paintings are based on the dreamtime themes of water, two snakes, two women and the Tingari cycle. A tingari is a song cycle for initiated men who roam the country, hold ceremonies and "sanctify" places.

In 1988 he won the Alice Prize , one of the oldest art prizes in Australia , for his work Tingari Story at Nyirrniminya . In 1989 his first solo exhibition took place at the Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi in Melbourne . The Australian Art Collector Magazine listed him in the years 2008 and 2009 among the 50 most collectable Aboriginal artists.

His pictures have been shown at numerous exhibitions. They are in national and international collections, including in Australia in the National Gallery of Australia and Art Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne , Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney and Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide .
