Wilkins, son of country singer-songwriter Marijohn Wilkin , wrote the song GTO during a senior high school lesson. The single GTO became a hit and reached number 4 in the US charts.
After an album and a tour, "Ronny & The Daytonas" were able to build on their debut success with the 65s single Sandy . In 1968 the band switched to " RCA Records " and released two more singles, "Diane, Diane" and "All American Girl", but they did not match the old successes.
