The history of the agricultural machinery manufacturer Ropa goes back to the farmer and hobbyist Hermann Paintner, who at the age of 25 in 1972 assembled his first self-propelled sugar beet harvester from other vehicle components, mostly collected by himself from the surrounding scrapyards . When people interested in a harvester were found a year later, the agricultural engineering company was commissioned by Alfons Holmer to build a self-propelled harvesting bunker. The interested parties were eleven farmers from the area, representatives of the Franconian and Bavarian sugar beet growers and Südzucker AG. Paintner designed and developed further for Holmer on an independent basis. In 1974 the first Holmer, System Paintner, was delivered.

Finally, Paintner separated from Holmer and founded his own company in 1986, Ropa Fahrzeug und Maschinenbau GmbH. Ropa is based in Sittelsdorf in Lower Bavaria, not far from Holmer's headquarters in Eggmühl. Paintner initially developed smaller and cheaper beet harvesters in the 1980s, but these failed to establish themselves on the market. In 1987, Paintner received the order from Südzucker AG to design a beet loader . The result was the loading mouse , which cleaned and loaded the sugar beet from the rent at the edge of the field onto the truck.

In 1988 a beet harvester was developed which, thanks to its new design, achieved lower ground pressure and better cleaning performance. In 1992 the world's largest bunker beet harvester was presented, which had a total bunker volume of 35 m³ and was triaxial. 1998 was the year of creation of the euro-tiger and euro-mouse , which have been modernized over the years. Series production of the euro-Tiger V8 started in 2005, and in 2010 the latest product, the euro-Maus 4, was presented.

With effect from September 1, 2012, Ropa took over the company WM Kartoffeltechnik.
