The Holmer Maschinenbau GmbH is a German agricultural machinery manufacturer for special lifting technology . The company is based in Schierling / Eggmühl in the Upper Palatinate . Holmer Maschinenbau is the world market leader in the field of self-propelled sugar beet harvesters.

history

Alfons Holmer was born in 1940. After his school days, from 1955 to 1958, he trained as a blacksmith and metal worker in his parents' blacksmith shop. From 1961 to 1966, Holmer attended several technical schools for further training purposes. In 1967 he was able to take his examination as a master agricultural machinery mechanic. Two years later, in 1969, he took over his parents' blacksmith business and thus laid the foundation for the Holmer Maschinenbau company .

In the beginning, the company's business was limited to the repair and trade of agricultural machinery. But until 1973 the business field was expanded. In addition to the Fiat brand tractors , grist mills , fence posts, school bus shelters, stone laying machines and conveyor belts were also produced.

In 1973, a group of eleven local farmers, representatives of the Franconian and Bavarian sugar beet growers and Südzucker AG asked Alfons Holmer to think about the construction of a self-propelled 6-row harvester bunker . Before that, an inquiry was also made to Wilhelm Stoll GmbH , which at the time was the market leader in the field of pulled beet technology. But Wilhelm Stoll GmbH refused to build 6-row self-propelled beet harvesters.

Construction could only begin after significant investments had been made, money had been collected by the partners involved and a subsidy had been approved by the Bavarian State Ministry. A total of 300,000 DM were required for this  . Hermann Paintner, who built a self-propelled sugar beet harvester from old components of various agricultural vehicles as early as 1972 , was called in as an external employee for the construction. The first series-produced 6-row, self-propelled head harvesting bunker ( KRBS for short ) was delivered in 1974. The harvesters became known under the name Holmer, System Paintner .

However, sales were slow due to the great skepticism of farmers. Back then, farmers mainly used light drawn systems with three or fewer rows. Other developments were started in search of further sales opportunities. So in 1976 the prototype of an implement carrier tractor was created. However, it should stay with this prototype for now. After far-reaching improvements and the switch to large-volume tires , the breakthrough came in 1977 for the self-propelled beet harvester. The sales figures rose rapidly. In parallel with the beet harvester, beet loading technology in the form of stationary transfer belts was produced from 1976 to 1986. Prototypes of self-propelled beet cleaning loaders were also built. The licenses for the construction of stationary transfer conveyors were later sold to Bottmersdorfer Gerätebau und Landwirtschaftliches Lohnunternehmen GmbH .

While there were eight employees in 1977, their number rose by leaps and bounds to 25 in 1979. Similar to the number of employees, sales rose from 800,000 DM to 4,122,022 DM in the same period. The capacity of the old workshop was now far insufficient. In 1979 the company moved to a new site outside Eggmühl with a larger workshop and office wing.

In the following years business went better and better. The German reunification brought a new, promising market with it. The expansion of the EU also opened up a new group of customers.

In 1996 a new type of beet harvester was finally produced, the "Terra Dos". This vehicle can buckle the main frame. In combination with the all-wheel steering, driving through the fields is possible that is gentle on the soil. This concept is known as dog or gentle gear. In the same year, the Holmer company presented a system vehicle , "Terra Variant", for liquid manure spreading for the first time . It is also equipped with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering.

In 2004, Alfons Holmer surprisingly decided to sell his company. The reason for this decision was the lack of a successor in his own family. The company Afinum, a cross-sector investment company, was awarded the contract .

In 2006, Afinum sold Holmer Maschinenbau GmbH to the AVIDA Group , which is also an investment company. In late 2007 bought the Holmer Maschinenbau GmbH , the Bottmersdorfer Instrument-Agricultural contractors GmbH . “Gebo” manufactures beet harvesting technology, among other things. With the purchase, Holmer can expand its range of products to include a self-propelled beet cleaning loader . This makes Holmer a full-liner in the beet technology sector. From the end of 2008, the AVIDA Group will be called Triginta Capital due to legal reasons .

In 2008, after more than 30 years, Holmer Maschinenbau GmbH exported to all relevant growing regions for sugar beet worldwide . Two types of self-propelled beet harvesters are produced, a carrier system vehicle and a self-propelled beet cleaning loader. Over 260 employees are employed at the company's headquarters in Schierling / Eggmühl and another 62 at the Groß Germersleben site . Four further subsidiaries were founded worldwide in Poland , France , the Czech Republic and the Ukraine . The company is represented by two branches in China . A total of around 400 people are employed at Holmer worldwide.

According to Holmer, the 2011 financial year ended particularly well with sales growth of 8%. 212 machines were built and delivered to customers. A large proportion of this went to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and China.

On June 30, 2012, Holmer delivers the 3,000th sugar beet harvester to a customer in Germany. This machine, a Terra Dos T3, is painted in metallic silver instead of the usual red.

The Bavarian mechanical engineering company has been part of Exel Industries since March 14, 2013 . Exel Industries is a global company that specializes primarily in spray technology for industry, agriculture and garden technology. With EXXACT , Exel Industries also has its own division for the construction and sale of sugar beet harvesters .

Holmer products

  • The Terra Dos beet harvester was built in several versions.
    • The TerraDos  T2 has a MAN engine with 460 HP, a bunker volume of 24 m³ and clears approx. 1.5 ha / h. The T2 has not been produced since 2006.
    • The second, newer version was the TerraDos  T3 . With a 480 HP MAN engine, 28 m³ bunker volume and a work rate of up to 2.5 ha / h, it has grown significantly compared to the T2. Production started in 2006 and only ended after the successor was introduced in 2015.
    • TerraDos T3plus is a modification of the T3 with a telescopic rear axle and a Mercedes-Benz engine. Production of the T3plus ran from 2006 to 2011.
    • With the Terra Dos T4-40 , Holmer will be building a beet harvester based on the modular principle for the first time in 2013 . The T4-40 is a 3-axle vehicle with a bunker volume of approx. 45 m³.
    • In 2014 the two-axle Terra Dos T4-30 will be presented. It is essentially based on the same assemblies as the T4-40 and has a bunker volume of approx. 30 m³. A 6 cylinder diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz with 626 hp is used in both versions.
  • The Terra Variant system vehicle can cultivate the field like a tractor. But with the different superstructures, the Variant can, for example, become a vehicle for spreading liquid manure , a beet removal vehicle, a grain transporter or a seed drill . With 600 hp and an electronic EHR , it is also, according to the company, the largest series tractor in Europe.
  • The Terra Felis is a self-propelled beet cleaning loader. Its key data: Deutz engine with 299 hp, pick-up width 9 m, transfer width 13 m.
  • Terra Felis 2 is the name of a completely newly developed beet cleaning loader. In addition to an increase in the loading width to 15 m and the pick-up width to 9.50 m, the Terra Felis 2 comes up with further innovations. Two of them are, for example, the patented holder and the post-cleaner that HOLMER VarioCleaner calls. The self-propelled vehicle is operated via a touchscreen and two joysticks. A 250 kW (340 PS) MAN engine is used as the drive unit.

At the beet europe in Seligenstadt on October 17th, 2012, the products Terra Dos T3 and Terra Felis 2 won the comparison test with other brands.
