Rosa Steinhart (born June 17, 1885 in Tachau ( Bohemia ), † March 3, 1943 in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was a Jewish merchant .

Life

Rosa Steinhart had three siblings: Ida Fränkel, Max Steinhart and Oskar Steinhart. In 1913 she married Walter Steinhart. He was a businessman and worked as a sales representative and accountant. Together with Emil Kahlenberg, he was the owner of the Walter Steinhart company, a specialty shop for household and kitchen appliances at Trachenberger Straße 23 in Dresden .

Rosa Steinhart and her husband had to move into the " Judenhaus " at Bautzner Strasse 20. From there the deportation took place on 23/24. November 1942 in the " Hellerberg Jewish Camp ". On 2/3 In March 1943 he was deported from Dresden-Neustadt train station to Auschwitz-Birkenau . Both were murdered in Auschwitz on March 3, 1943.

Commemoration

On November 26, 2012, two stumbling blocks were set on Trachenberger Straße 23 in Dresden in memory of Rosa and Walter Steinhart .

On February 3, 2015, 16 of the 18 local councils of Dresden- Pieschen voted to name a new street in “Rosa-Steinhart-Straße”. Rosa-Steinhart-Strasse in Dresden is located in a new residential area in Pieschen. This is called " Pieschener Melodien " and is located between Moritzburger Strasse and Konkordienplatz. A building community named their new building project "Pink Melodie", as it is located on the corner of Rosa-Steinhart-Strasse and Konkordienplatz.

On November 9, 2019, a tour of the district to Stolpersteinen took place: "It was our neighbors".

The Harp Tree is a short film by Mark Birnbaum about Ron and Rick Steinhart, the sons of Holocaust survivors who traveled across Europe to find out about family members killed by the Nazis.
