Rose Kemp

Rose Kemp (born December 11, 1984 in Carlisle , England ), daughter of the folk musicians Maddy Prior and Rick Kemp from the band Steeleye Span , is an English singer and guitarist. She lives in Carlisle and has released three solo albums to date.

Life

As a child, Kemp was on tour with her parents' band and sang along. In 2002 she released the acappella folk album Bib and tuck as Maddy Prior And The Girls together with Prior and Abbie Lathe . Her debut album Glance , which she released in 2003 when she was just 19, was a more folk and pop-oriented acoustic album. The following year, however, she began to change her style towards rock and increasingly use distorted guitars. She released a mini album that was initially called The Free To Be Me EP , but was later renamed. For the first time, Kemp was solely responsible for arrangements and production. Her second album, A Hand Full Of Hurricanes , was released in February 2007 and received numerous positive reviews and comparisons with PJ Harvey . Her album Unholy majesty , released in late summer 2008 , which brought her comparisons with Black Sabbath and Tom Waits , but also with Led Zeppelin , she recorded with producer Chris Sheldon . The German rock magazine eclipsed named it album of the year 2008 in its 02/09 issue.

Side projects
In addition to her solo career, she is involved in numerous musical projects. She works with Max Milton and SJ Esau, on whose album Small vessel she sang, in the band Jeremy Smoking Jacket and was a member of the now disbanded, instrumental post-rock quartet VILNA . She also supported the psychedelic doom metal band Ufomammut from Italy on their album Idolum and the English doom metal band Atavist on their album II: Ruined .
