Amplifier is an alternative rock - band from Manchester , United Kingdom .

Band history

Sel Balamir, Matt Brobin and himself got together at Neil Mahony's record store. All three had already gained experience in various bands. They gave their first concert together in May 1999. Their debut album Amplifier was released in May 2004 on the British label Music for Nations and was well received by the English and German-speaking music press. After the label bankruptcy and the change to the SPV label , the album was re-released as a double CD in June 2005. In addition to the videos and B-sides of the single releases, the second CD also contains the song Half Life , which was previously only available on the digipak .

The EP The Astronaut Dismantles Hal , which contains six pieces and a hidden track , was released in Germany on October 14, 2005 and showed a stylistic development of the band. For example, electric drum loops were included in the song Into the Space Age . First, each part of the drum kit was recorded separately and independently of each other and then put back together again to a beat in the computer using a sampler .

The second album, entitled Insider , was released at the end of September 2006. For Balamir, the predecessor was "played slower, deeper, with longer songs - like mantras". Here the pieces were now less excessive, they were “more compact”. The recordings for the live video procedures were shot at the start of the German tour in October 2006 in Cologne and Munich.

Amplifier is friends with the Manchester based band Oceansize , with whom they have already played a large number of concerts together. Former Oceansize guitarist and singer Steve Durose has been a permanent member of the band since 2011.

In February 2011, The Octopus, the band's third studio album, was released. The double album is available as a special edition including a 70-page booklet and as a digipak with an 8-page booklet.

In March 2013, the fourth studio album Echo Street was released .

style

The guitar and bass sound is modified with numerous effects, and the vocals in some songs can be heard distorted or enriched with effects. Musically they were influenced by classic rock and hard rock to progressive rock. Bands like Led Zeppelin , The Who , Pink Floyd , Tool and Soundgarden can be named here.
