Roseli Feitosa

Roseli Amaral Feitosa (born March 15, 1989 in São José do Rio Preto ) is a Brazilian boxer . In 2010 she became world champion of amateur boxers in the light heavyweight division .

Career

Roseli Feitosa played volleyball in her youth . After taking up a job as a hotel worker in São Paulo , she began boxing to compensate for her body. She proved to be so talented that she was able to compete four months after starting training. In 2007 she started for the first time in the Brazilian championship for women. She came in the middleweight division up to the semifinals, in which she lost against Erica Cabrera on points.

In 2008 she was used by the Brazilian Boxing Association at the Pan American Championship in Port of Spain on Trinidad & Tobago . There she also reached the semifinals, in which she lost on points against Yenebier Guillen from the Dominican Republic (4:11). In 2009 Roseli Feitosa came to the final of the Brazilian Middleweight Championship. In this she fought an even battle with Danielle Batierre, which she lost very narrowly with a tie of 25:25. It was nevertheless used again at the Pan American Championship in Guayaquil . She won there in her first fight over Chimere Taylor from Trinidad & Tobago on points (12: 1), but lost in the semifinals to world champion Ariane Fortin from Canada on points (6:18).

The year 2010 saw a greatly improved Roseli Feitosa. She became middleweight champion with a point victory over multiple national champion Andreia Bandeira (13.9) Brazilian champion. At the Pan American Championship in Brasília , she started in the light heavyweight division for the first time and took first place there with a clear point win in the final over Melinda Watpool from Canada (11: 3). At the World Championships in Bridgetown / Barbados she returned to this weight class and was by no means a favorite, as she was more or less still a beginner in the international ring. But she showed excellent fights in Bridgeport and in her first fight clearly defeated Muhatia Mediahi from Kenya on points (22: 2). Then she also won over the experienced boxers Selma Yağcı from Turkey (16: 3) and Timea Nagy from Hungary (14: 6) clearly on points. In the final, she left Marina Wolnowa from Kazakhstan no chance and defeated them 11: 3 on points. When she was 21 she was world champion. It was also the first world championship title for Brazil for men and women in the amateur field.
