After differences with this club, she moved to the Belediyespor Kocaeli sports club in 2010 . In the boxing sport for women, which was still developing at the beginning of her career, she made very rapid progress and already represented Turkey in 2001 at the 1st World Championship in women's boxing in Scranton , USA . She started in the heavyweight division , which at this world championship reached a body weight of 90 kg and took 3rd place behind Devonne Canady from the United States and Maria Kovacs from Hungary together with Maria Reingard from Russia . Individual results from this championship are not known.

After that, results of her are only known from 2004. This year she took first place at the so-called Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul , which was one of the best-filled tournaments in women's boxing in the world at the time. She came here in the light heavyweight division , the weight class in which she now exclusively started, in the final to a point victory over Tamara Lialina from Russia . At the 2004 European Championships in Riccione / Italy, she took 3rd place behind Angela Torska from Ukraine and Galina Iwanowa from Russia.

In 2005 Selma Yağcı again won two medals at the international championships. At the 2006 European Championships in Warsaw she was in the semi-finals, because she lost again to Galina Iwanowa and thus still won an EM bronze medal. 2006 World Championships took place in New Delhi again, with Selma Yagci at the start. However, she already lost there in the quarter-finals against Irina Sinezkaja from Russia and therefore "only" took 5th place. At the 2007 European Championships in Vejle / Denmark , she lost in the semifinals against Anna Gladkitsch from Russia by breaking off in the 2nd round, but still won another bronze medal, as only four participants were at the start in the light heavyweight division. In December 2007, Yağcı was then champion of the European Union in Lille , defeating Catalina Stanga from Romania and Karolina Bagnowska from Poland by breaking off in the second round.

Also in 2008 and 2009 Yağcı was successful at the international championships. In 2008 she was again champion of the European Union. In Liverpool she defeated Ulrike Brückner from Germany and Fetti Paraschina from Romania. She defeated Maria Jaworskaja from Russia (8: 6) and Desislawa Lazarowa from Bulgaria (4: 2) on points and lost in the final against Luminata Turcin from Romania just 1: 2 on points.

In 2010, she missed out on medals for the first time in a year.
