The castle Hunolstein is the ruins of a hilltop castle on 395  m above sea level. NN in the district of Hunolstein in the municipality of Morbach in the Hunsrück .

It is the former seat of the bailiffs of Hunolstein and, according to legend, the seat of the Nibelung Hunold .

The castle dates from the 12th century. It was conquered by Franz von Sickingen in 1522 and so badly damaged during the Thirty Years War that it had to be abandoned from 1637.

A round corner tower and remnants of the surrounding walls have been preserved. The facility has a length of around 40 meters and is surrounded by a 1.30 meter thick curtain wall, which is up to eight meters high on the south side.

On a quartzite rock formerly stood the keep , another about three meters high square wall rest is obtained from the. From there there is a view to the west into the Dhron valley or north to the Haardtkopf (658 m) near Gornhausen .
