Rosemarie Polkorab

Rosemarie Polkorab (born January 15, 1947 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † February 12, 2009 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1994 she was a member of the State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council .

Rosemarie Polkorab studied music at the Vienna Conservatory. She passed the state examination and matriculation examination and from 1972 worked as a music teacher for the music schools of the City of Vienna. In addition, from 1988 she taught as a music teacher at the Vienna Conservatory in the children's singing school department. Polkorab was works council member of the music schools and between 1994 and 1998 was parliamentary group leader of the women's department of the union art, media and liberal professions.

From 1961 Rosemarie Polkorab became politically active in the Viennese SPÖ. She was active in the socialist youth and the young generation and between 1987 and 1994 she was a district councilor in Simmering . From 1993 onwards she was also the district chairwoman of the district, and she also took on the post of deputy district party leader. In 1994 she was elected to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council, to which she belonged continuously until her death. From 1995 she represented the SPÖ on the Culture Committee.

Rosemarie Polkorab was married and died on February 12, 2009, shortly after the death of her husband.

In 2011, the Polkorabplatz in Simmering was named after her.
