The Basilica of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Orani ( english Basilica of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary ) is a Roman Catholic church in the Philippine city of Orani . The statue of Our Lady of Orani is venerated in the pilgrimage church of the Diocese of Balanga . The church was built at the end of the 18th century in the classical style .

history

The parish was created in 1714 as a mission by the Dominicans and received a portrait of the Virgin Mary for their initially simple chapel. In place of a wood-bamboo chapel, the Dominicans built a permanent church with a monastery in 1792, and the church received the patronage of the rosary . After renovations in 1836, the earthquake of 1852 caused severe damage, which was made worse by a fire in 1870, after which reconstruction work took place until 1891. In 1938 another serious fire followed after an earthquake. The Virgin of Orani was canonically crowned in 1959 , and in 1986 the church became a diocesan shrine. The church was repeatedly repaired, during the extensive renovation from 1987 to 1992 the ceiling was raised and modern stained glass windows were used. In 2012 the church received a new altar. Pope Francis elevated the church to the rank of minor basilica in 2019 .
