Rosmarie Buri (born July 21, 1930 in Riggisberg ; † July 22, 1994 in Burgdorf ) was a Swiss writer .

Life

Rosmarie Buri grew up in a poor family in the canton of Bern ; she could not learn a trade. After the early death of her alcoholic father, she had to support her mother in the household and looking after the four siblings. Both in the family and outside, she experienced a lot of violence and ridicule, partly because of her figure.

In 1952 she married Otti, a construction worker. She attended painting and calligraphy courses and at the age of 50 began to write texts about her difficult childhood and youth. After years of unsuccessful search, she found a publisher for her life story by chance.

Her first book Dumm und Dick. My Long Way became a bestseller with a circulation of several hundred thousand copies and a large media coverage and appeared in French in 1991.

She processed her experiences with the unexpected success in a second book that appeared shortly before her death.
