The Viking Beyla is the lead ship in a series of twelve river cruise ships operated by the Swiss shipping company Viking River Cruises . The ships are developed and built at the Neptun shipyard in Warnemünde . For use on very shallow rivers, special emphasis was placed on a low weight and thus a low draft. The development project was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). A testing section was built at the shipyard to test new materials and new components. The ship is used on the Elbe .

construction

The Viking Beyla is 109.90 m 25 m shorter than the Viking Longships and has a similar distinctive bow shape as them. The ship has two and a half decks with 47 cabins and two suites.

The sun deck is equipped with lawn carpet, play areas and parasols. In the front area there is the fully retractable wheelhouse with two external control stands. 33 cabins and two suites are built into the upper deck. The cabins on the starboard side and the suites on the port side have walk-in balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows, on the port side there are only French balconies. In the front area there is a lounge with 98 seats, the reception , a bar and a shop. Above the engine rooms in the rear are the laundry and various technical rooms.

On the main deck there are 18 cabins for the crew, 14 passenger cabins and storage rooms in the rear area. The cabins have small windows. All cabins are air-conditioned and equipped with double beds, bathroom with shower and toilet, safe and refrigerator, WiFi and TV. In front of it is the restaurant with 98 seats. In the front part are the kitchen and the cooling and freezing rooms. The bow thruster room with drive motor is right at the front. All rooms used by passengers and crew are soundproofed and fully air-conditioned. In order to achieve the limit values between 55 and 60 dB (A), all drive and auxiliary machines are elastically mounted.

drive

The drive consists of three Scania DL16 engines, each of which drives a Schottel pump jet. A Schottel pump jet of the type SPJ 82 RD, which is driven by a Scania diesel engine with 405 kW, is mounted in the bow as a maneuvering aid. Its thrust is 24  kN .

General technical facilities

Two Scania Dl16 gensets with 575 kVA each are installed to generate electricity. The ship is equipped with a fire extinguishing system for all areas. In addition, a sprinkler system is installed in all cabins and public areas such as the lounge and restaurant . Within the machinery spaces are PRINOVEC fire extinguishing systems installed. Three ballast pumps with a capacity of 25–50 m³ / h are used for flooding or draining the ballast tanks and as fire extinguishing pumps.

Water supply and waste

A fresh water storage tank with 80 m³ capacity is on board. The water is automatically chlorinated and treated with a UV system. The wastewater is treated with a membrane treatment plant and stored in a collection tank. The kitchen waste water is fed into a tank via an oil separator . The kitchen waste is shredded and stored in containers together with the fat from the oil separators.

Sister ships

Together with the Viking Beyla (hull number S559), her only completed sister ship to date , the Viking Astrild (hull number S560, ENI 07002023), was christened on March 24, 2015 .
