Rossbad (nature reserve)

The Rossbad is a nature reserve (NSG) at an altitude of about 660  m above sea level. A. with a size of 103 ha and lies to the west within the limits of the municipality of Krumbach in Vorarlberg , Austria . The nature reserve is part of the cross-border Nagelfluhkette nature park .

The area was designated as a nature reserve in 1973 by a state law gazette.

Area description and boundaries

The NSG Rossbad is mainly a grassland area. Form the boundary of the nature reserve

  • in the north the Weißach ,
  • in the west (e.g. the Glatzbach) and south the municipal boundary between the municipalities of Krumbach and Langenegg as well as the Badgraben (near the spa Rossbad ) and
  • in the east various parcels in the municipality of Krumbach.

The NSG Rossbad is located in the Molasse landscape of the Lower Bregenzerwald. In some cases, near-natural mixed forests grow in it, as well as natural fir forests on acidic soils above the creek cuttings. The bog areas are partly used as litter meadows.

Protection purpose

In this area, the diversity of moors (raised bogs ), meadows and forests is protected.

According to Section 4 of the Vorarlberg Law on Nature Conservation and Landscape Development, the goal is to " preserve the natural habitat, above all by observing the goals of nature conservation and landscape development ". This is “the responsibility of each individual ”, which is why each individual is obliged “to the extent that this is reasonable for him to refrain from behavior which, in itself or because of the expected consequences of the example, can lead to a significant impairment of nature or the landscape. In particular, leisure activities must be carried out with the greatest possible protection of nature and the landscape. This is especially true where areas are still largely untouched by such activities ”.

Prohibitions

According to § 3 of the regulation of the state government on the nature reserve Rossbad in Krumbach it is forbidden in the protected area:

  • To make changes that are likely to damage nature,
  • to deface the landscape and
  • to impair the enjoyment of nature.

In particular, it is forbidden

  1. To damage, uproot, dig up plants of any kind or to pluck, cut off or tear off parts of them,
  2. To erect or modify buildings of all kinds,
  3. Meliorations perform peat stabbing to abandon waste and other materials separately growing trees, groups of trees, hedges and bushes to eliminate,
  4. To set up tent and camp sites, to set up caravans, to operate acoustically or visually disruptive devices.

Excluded from this prohibition according to § 3 are according to § 4 of the regulation of the state government on the nature reserve Rossbad in Krumbach:

  • the usual agricultural and forestry use and the lawful pursuit of hunting and fishing (Section 4 (1))
  • Exceptions granted in special cases if this is necessary for reasons of public safety, agriculture, forestry or hydraulic engineering (Section 4 (2)).

It is therefore z. B. not forbidden to fertilize, roll and haul, provided that this is done in the context of normal agricultural and forestry use. There is also no restriction on grazing livestock units . The nature reserve Roßbad only houses the remains of a raised bog, some of which are still extensively managed and some of which are covered in bushes with peat birches.

Hiking / guided tours

The municipality of Krumbach offers regular guided tours through the moors / nature reserve from May to September. There are information boards to explain the moor ecology and landscape history of Krumbach.
