Rosterminalugol OAO ( Russian Ростерминалуголь , suitcase word from Rossija 'Russia', terminal and ugol 'coal') is a port operator that operates a coal terminal in Ust-Luga . According to the company's own information, 18.1 million tons of coal were handled in 2016.

location

The port is located in the Luga Bay of the Gulf of Finland near Ust-Luga . The terminal operated by Rosterminalugol has two deep-water quays that are 564 m long. The port has a depth between 14 and 16 m. The maximum permissible draft is 12.7 and 14.55 m. It can be called all year round by ships up to the size class Post-Panmax with a loading capacity of up to 110,000 tons with a maximum width of up to 44 m and a length of up to 260 m.

history

Rosterminalugol was founded in 1996. The southern bank of Luga Bay about 12 km north-east of Ust-Luga in Kingissepp district of Leningrad Oblast was selected as a suitable location for the port .

The planned capacity of the terminal in 1996 was 8 million tons of coal annually. By 2016 the capacity had more than doubled. In 2016, 18 million tons of coal were loaded via the Rosterminalugol.

In January 2006, the automated handling facility was inaugurated in the presence of Vladimir Putin .

loading

The annual turnover of goods shows an increase of 3.4%. The 18 millionth ton in the current year was loaded at the end of December 2016 using the board-to-board loading system using the newly operated PS-11 hopper. The system enables the simultaneous use of two wagon tippers for unloading.

According to the last annual accounts, the number of loaded wagons has risen to 252,000, and 283 ships were handled in the port. Most of the coal shipped via the Rosterminalugol goes to the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain and Turkey.

The coal handling process from the railroad to sea transport is automated. The wagons are unloaded using two wagon tippers, which can tip four half wagons in about three minutes. For the first time in Russia, wagon sliding platforms were used so that the light trains can be lined up and unloaded quickly. The wagon shifting platforms move the wagons on parallel tracks without additional sliding points. In winter, car defrosters with IR emitters are used. The coal is then transported on conveyor belts and poured through a sieve with a mesh size of 280 mm. The coal continues through a suction device. Depending on the loading scheme, the coal is automatically transported to one of the four stores or directly to the ship. Two ship loading machines on two quays can load two Panamax ships at the same time.

In the envelope, the coal is cleaned of additives and the necessary grain size is achieved. The coal samples are taken directly before loading.

environmental Protection

Rosterminalugol has developed a long-term environmental protection concept for stevedoring. The company has taken on environmental protection obligations in accordance with international standards, including ISO 14001 : 2004 “Environmental management systems”.

Rosterminalugol is modernizing the sewage treatment plant in the coal terminal in order to avoid negative impacts on the Baltic Sea and to maintain the environmental balance in the Baltic Sea within the framework of the international HELCOM Agreement (Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment in the Baltic Sea Region, concluded in Helsinki in 1992). In November 2016, 1,300 biennial salmon trout were released into the river Swir with the financial support of Rosterminalugol . In December 2016, Rosterminalugol signed an environmental agreement with the administration of Kingissep County of Leningrad Oblast .
