Roswitha Haftmann Prize

The Roswitha Haftmann Prize is an international art prize that has been awarded by the Zurich Roswitha Haftmann Foundation since 2001 . It is the most highly endowed European prize for contemporary visual artists ; the prize sum is 150,000 francs for the main prize and 75,000 francs for the occasional special prize.

The Roswitha Haftmann Foundation was founded in 1998 by Roswitha Haftmann (1924–1998) with the sole purpose of honoring “outstanding achievements in the field of fine arts”. For this purpose, an independent board of trustees determines the award winner, the amount of the award amount, the time of the award and also decides on the financial support for exhibitions of the respective award winner.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees consists of at least six personalities, one of whom is appointed by the Kunsthaus Zürich , the Kunstmuseum Bern , the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Museum Ludwig Cologne and must be responsible for the respective museum. The other members are additionally appointed by the board.

In 2013 the Board of Trustees consists of Christoph Becker (Director Kunsthaus Zürich), Katharina Schmidt (former Director at the Kunstmuseum Basel), Bernhard Mendes Bürgi (Director Kunstmuseum Basel), Matthias Frehner (Director Kunstmuseum Bern), Philipp Kaiser (Director Museum Ludwig Cologne), Karola Kraus (director of the Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig Vienna ), Bernhart Schwenk (curator of contemporary art, Pinakothek der Moderne , Munich) and the journalist Thomas Wagner .
