The Rotbürzel warbler ( Vermivora luciae ) is a small insect-feeding bird from the family of Waldsänger (Parulidae). The English name "Lucy's Warbler" was named after Lucy Hunter Baird, the daughter of ornithologist Spencer Fullerton Baird . It got the German name because of the red to orange rump .
Red-rumped warbler are one of the smallest forest warbler species. They wear a rather nondescript plumage. The upper side plumage is grayish, the lower side plumage white. The males have small rust-colored spots on their heads. They breed next to the lemon warbler ( Protonotaria citrea ) as the only species of the warbler in tree hollows or nesting boxes.
The distribution area of the red rump wood warbler stretches from the southwest of the USA to northwest Mexico . The stocks have declined due to the brood parasitism of the brown-headed cowbird ( Molothrus ater ).
