The Rote Wand is 2818 m above sea level. A. high mountain in Austrian Carinthia , is in the Goldberg group and lies on the Villacher Alpenstrasse .
Rote Wand observation tower
The Rote Wand observation tower is located on the Villach Alpine Road and rises 400 m above sea level. A. over the abyss of the rock face. From there you have a wide view of the lower Gailtal , the Karawanken up to the Slovenian Kranjska Gora and the Slovenian Julian Alps . You can also see Italy, Slovenia and Austria as far as the three-country corner. Display boards at the lookout point remind of the earthquake in Friuli of 1348 .

On Friday, January 16, 2015 shortly before 8:23 p.m. CET (19:23 UTC ), the Rote Wand erupted from the Rote Wand below an observation tower over an area of around five hectares of rock, and 1500 cubic meters of rock fell into the underlying area Forest.
